About the species · Cave lion
The largest cat of the Ice Age north.
About a tenth larger than a modern lion, with a longer, lower skull. Palaeolithic drawings show it without a mane.
It hunted reindeer, horse and young mammoth across the mammoth steppe from the Urals to Alaska, and vanished with that landscape around 13 000 years ago.
